Before I Sleep

Twenty six years ago–
We were lost and found–
We were a different sound–
And we danced around the truth–
You did not say goodbye–
Did not want to–
Days turned to a quarter of a century–
Always is right now for me–
Not a day goes by that you do not cross my mind–
Young and stupid though we were–
Falling into fancy and folly–
We used dynamite words–
And our eyes for each other were full of forever.

Back to back, then looking over your shoulder to speak to me…
I turned to face you…
That sad, longing look…
I woke up…
And you were gone.
