ADO #5- Sunday Summer (Spenserian Sonnet)

Sunday Summer

Remember that day with us at the park,

When you bought me ice cream

And I traced our initials on tree bark?

Curled up on a tartan blanket, we schemed

Immortal pirates plotting timeless treasure map.

But all was not what it would seem;

The clock ticked on like a timed trap.

You sighed as you laid your head on my lap

Musing on sunlight stealing through leaves on my smile,

Our music the sound of children laughter on a rattletrap.

Your kisses and touch chaste all the while.

The hours languidly flowed into time.

That day is gone but you are still mine.

ADO #4 Love Bite (A Spenserian Sonnet)

ADO #4 Love Bite (A Spenserian Sonnet)

The fun of one night,

A once-in-a-lifetime love

Came in the form of a bite,

Or other actions thereof.

What of your bruise, my turtledove,

Now we have been lost to time?

It seems a little sick, sort of,

That the memory was so sublime!

That night we broke a paradigm,

Freed ourselves from reality had been.

We escaped the weak pantomime

With something some would say was sin.

The bruise is healed. It’s all gone;

But our joy from the night lives on and on.

Dirty Stop Out – a poem

Dirty Stop Out

Left you

In your bed.

Smell of you;

Easily led.

Pizza slice

On my way out;

Rolling dice,

& messing about.

Crunch on snow

to where I stay.

Consequences flow—

Come what may.

Netflix chill

Just another night

Might not fill

What I fight.

The Lightness of Being Me

Oh I was binary,

In orbit,

Slave to a celestial joy

caught up in once-upon-time,

Text lies, pizza boxes & corsets.

Knocked out by a quasar,

Sobering sense at cocktail hour,

I heard the Word that made me whole;

The Big Bang of truth in a forgotten date.

Set me free.

Prompt #2 Write something “On The Road”

“HEATHEN”

No regret in taking the Heartbreak Highway. I have had no end of company on this road. In the end with you, I  guess, I was just a flash of rag-tag blur as you sped by at 55mph. Perhaps you pined a little as you saw me in that proverbial rear-view mirror of yours while that plain little woman sitting next to you passed you a ham sandwich and prattled on about the wedding plans she made for you both.

And I walk on with nothing left to lose— With the Sun on my face— I squint into the thermals bluring my memory of our mad love. But these thoughts are as elusive as the sweet smell of mesquite after a desert rain.

I need coffee.

Untitled Poem #7

Sunday sunshine breaches dark cloud,
streams through bedroom window,
warming my face–
Alone now,
I stretch over white duvet.
On bedside table, black coffee waits
going cold as
I ruminate start of this day;
“Come what may.”

His scent on me–
faint now;
Lost within a dream–
or blown away on the wind,
like summer blue sky
in late August–
or Italian lavender.

His face–
so sweet with that
aquamarine gaze
and the promise whispered;
“Always…”

I cannot auspicate future need,
or if planets will align.
Revelations are, indeed, for another time.
At most, these memories upon which I feed–
wait as I continue to ruminate–
and hope they do not grow cold.
